\"Paul<\/a>Hanna to open for Nugent at Resch<\/h2>\n

Paul Hanna won\u2019t just be the youngest musician on stage Friday night at the Resch Center, he\u2019ll also be the sole voice representing the Green Bay rock scene.<\/p>\n

The frontman of longtime band Annex will do a solo acoustic set to open for Ted Nugent, who is first up on the Midwest Rock \u2018n Roll Express Tour that also has Styx and REO Speedwagon in tow.<\/p>\n

Hanna has played a lot of venues across the country, but never one as big as the Resch or with three as recognizable names in classic rock.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m definitely honored to be on the same stage. This is the Madison Square Garden of Green Bay really,\u2019\u2019 said Hanna, who has fond memories of seeing acts like Poison and Metallica at Brown County Veterans Memorial Arena as a middle school student.<\/p>\n

He was as surprised as anyone to get the invite last week. The tour reached out to WAPL, 105.7 FM, for a suggestion on a solo act to do a four-song original acoustic set before Nugent goes on, and Hanna\u2019s name deservedly came up.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo get that call was pretty crazy,\u2019\u2019 said Hanna, who will do his set, hang around for a little of the show and then walk over to The Stadium View Bar & Grille, where Annex is playing later that night.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s going to be a little weird going up on that stage and it will just be me,\u2019\u2019 he said of the Resch gig.<\/p>\n

It won\u2019t, however, be the first time he\u2019s opened for REO. Annex opened for the band in the late 1990s at the Kewaunee County Fair in Luxemburg.<\/p>\n

Inspired at the age of 9 to play guitar after seeing the movie La Bamba, Paul Hanna started out his playing career on a Harmony guitar, graduated to a Stratocaster but now considers a tobacco-burst Les Paul, a style once played by another of his heroes, the true love of his life.<\/p>\n

\u201cI got this guitar, basically, as a divorce gift to myself,\u201d said Hanna, lead vocalist and guitarist of Annex. \u201cI\u2019ve played Les Pauls for a lot of years. I started playing Fender Statocasters, but as I got older, I switched over to a Marshall amplifer and the Gibson Les Paul.<\/p>\n

\u201cI bought the tobacco burst. I\u2019m a Kiss freak. Ace Frehley early on played the tobacco burst.<\/p>\n

Throughout the years, there have been different bands, different inspirations, but as a kid, Kiss was the inspiration. They weren\u2019t the best rock and roll band and they don\u2019t write the best songs, but Kiss was just cool to me. I can\u2019t explain it. I\u2019m sure it\u2019s kind of like a kid looking at a comic book. They weren\u2019t human to me. They were superheroes.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve got a couple cherry bursts at home, but I always liked this guitar. It\u2019s really light for a Les Paul, which is not very common. Some guys like the girls with the booty. I feel the Les Paul is the girl with the booty if you look at the arch top. It\u2019s got some meat behind it.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt definitly has its own sound. To me it just makes sense. It\u2019s rock and roll. To me the Les Paul is the sexiest guitar made. I look at it and it still amazes me. It doesn\u2019t matter if it\u2019s the Black Beauty or the white one. You look at them and just go, \u2018Wow, that\u2019s beautiful.\u2019<\/p>\n

Hanna still remembers the day he bought his favorite guitar at Henri\u2019s in Appleton.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt kind of just fell in my lap. I came down to Appleton and stopped in at Henri\u2019s. I\u2019ve played a lot of Les Paul\u2019s in my day, but I picked this one up and you just know. You\u2019ve got to play them. You can\u2019t just look at them. When I played this one, it sang to me. It definitely sings. Each guitar has it\u2019s own tonality. This one just sings to me. I love it. Les Paul\u2019s are so rock and roll. One of the first electric guitars made. They haven\u2019t changed the makeup much. It\u2019s meat and potatoes.\u201d<\/p>\n
